Quan Yin (Kwan Yin): Bringer
of Love and Compassion
There are many stories of Quan Yin. One is that she was the
daughter of a king who was forcing her to marry a cruel but
powerful man. But Quan Yin wanted only to help people and
so she refused to marry this man. As punishment her father
made her work very hard, day and night, and reduced her food
but this did not cause her to yield. She remained kind and
good and in time the animals around her began to help her
with her chores. This frustrated her father further and he
ordered that she be put to death. When she died she was made
a goddess and was about to cross over into heaven. But as
she moved toward the light she heard the cries of suffering
from those still on earth and she was filled with compassion.
She turned back and returned to the earth vowing to stay until
all have love and peace.
This statue of Quan Yin measures 3.75 inches high. She
is depicted sitting on a lotus flower holding a vase containing
the elixir of purity and long life. Comes with story card.
